What is Home Care? This is a difficult question. Our goal here at Heart of Gold is to invent our own definition of 'home care'. Every client has their own unique set of circumstances. We support the individual approach because everyone has different needs. We aspire to be the most reliable and caring agency in Northeastern Pennsylvania! As stated on our home page's mission statement, we assist seniors or those who wish to stay in their own home to avoid nursing homes or assisted living facilities.
This brings us back to the question, 'what is home care?'
To us, home care is more than sending a PCA (Personal Care Aide) to your home. We spend time searching for the right aide for YOU. We communicate with our clients to ensure that your needs are being met and that you have an aide that is right for YOU. Communication is essential to this process. We aspire to provide a personalized service to every one of our clients. It is important that you are not just staying in your house, you are continuing to live in your home.

David and I met at our first jobs out of college working for a community-based rehabilitation program for adults with traumatic brain injuries. It was apparent back then that we both had the same interest in helping people achieve their goals of independence and we knew some day we would team up to bring our passion to our own business. Heart of Gold Home Care was a seed planted back in 1990 and has now grown to be the premier home care business in Northeast Pennsylvania.
I have worked with people with a wide variety of special needs over the past 30 years. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Education, I began in Pennsylvania in 1990 by working with adults who had sustained traumatic brain injuries (TBI) as a recreation specialist then as an educator and case manager. In Minnesota, I assisted adults with various disabilities in several programs including The Courage Center in Minneapolis as a vocational specialist and case coordinator. After returning to Pennsylvania, I again specialized in assisting adults with TBI and their families. As Director of Vocational Services and the case coordinator for several clients, I was responsible for maximizing each client’s independence in the home, in the community, and in the workplace. I am proud to have developed and implemented vocational programming, policies and procedures, and staff training programs. However, my true love was the daily interactions with the clients. Helping people is my passion and it is the ultimate goal of Heart of Gold.
I made a career out of helping people regain and maintain independence. I have my undergraduate degree in therapeutic recreation from SUNY Brockport and my master’s degree in health care administration from The New School for Social Research in New York City.
I have over twenty years of experience working with people recovering from spinal cord injuries, orthopedic surgeries (hip and knee replacements), traumatic brain injuries and strokes. I have developed and directed recreation programs in acute care rehabilitation, long term care, transitional living and community settings in upstate New York and New York City. I am also well known to the older adult community in the Poconos, having spent five years providing home health care products to individuals in senior centers and senior living communities.
Helping people is not only my career, it is also something from which I derive great satisfaction. That is why I chose to open Heart of Gold Home Care. My goal is to develop the premier Home Care agency in the area by recruiting and retaining staff members who are not only well qualified but also have a passion for helping people. I train my staff to provide care with respect and dignity.
